THE SOCIALIST ECONOMY

In 1947 Seym, predominated by PPR, worked out a new economic plan, so-called 3-year plan. Its purpose was to raise the standard of life. The free trade was abolished. Furthermore, the introduction of agriculture collectivization was announced, prison camps were founded in which prisoners had to work like slaves. During the 3-year plan, the communists regarded the increase of coal production and development of heavy industry, also the collectivization as the most important things. In 1950 a new so-called 6-year plan was worked out, whose main purpose was to satisfy the military needs of the USSR. The workmen worked very hard, they ruined their health. The authorities started to establish co-operatives, forcing peasants to sign up into them. Otherwise they were prosecuted and arrested. In agricultural economy a regression started. In towns and cities there was not enough food. And that is why at the beginning of 1953 everything was very expensive. The government did not manage to change the bad economic situation. Apart from that, also bureaucracy was developing. People, who were in administration, had insurance in case of illness, free curing, retirement benefits, access to education. All this system built the ground for submission to the authority, resignation from the responsibility, which deprived the society of thinking and self-organization.
